Where Are They Now? Teddi Chanos

Positive reviews from salon floor clients are always great, but hearing positive reviews from our SFIEC alumni always make our world go round. One of our SFIEC graduates from 2010, Teddi Chanos recently sent us an update on what she’s been up to since she graduated and got her Cosmetology license.

SFIEC Alumni: Teddi Chanos

Its Teddi Chanos,  I wanted to shoot you an email updating you on everything I have been up to and how I am so thankful I choose SFIEC! The moment I walked into SFIEC I knew it was the beauty school for me! The energy in the building is so positive, even when we have our ups and downs, and truly has so many opportunities you can not get anywhere else!  I am so thankful for all the Learning Leaders and faculty who helped mold me into the stylist I am today and pushed me to just say YES and believe that I can do anything I set my mind to!Out of beauty school I got my license and went to work for Peter Thomas Hair Design in Berkeley!  They were my top choice ever since they were a guest speaker at SFIEC. I loved Peter’s enthusiam and passion for the hair industry, it is contagious! I worked my way through their assistant program in 10 months and I absolutely loved it! The only reason I ended up leaving after a little over a year from PTHD was because I wanted to pursue a career in the Bridal industry!  Therefore I moved to a salon in Pleasanton, that showed me everything I never wanted in a salon and I soon started booking Bridal work as a side job.  I began my search for a salon to buy and make into my very own! I used everything I learned I did not want in a salon from the Pleasanton location that I will leave a mystery and took everything I loved about Peter Thomas and created a business plan!  Now over a year later I found a
location in Pleasanton I could mold into my very own salon, Tousled Hair Salon!  We opened on 1.1.2013 and I am currently working 10-8 Tues-Sat and renovating the space Sunday & Monday.  I love the hair business and my passion comes through not only in my work, but my dedication to keeping my team happy! A happy team is a happy salon, which equals incredibly happy clients! I am currently looking for more amazing stylists to add to my rockstar team!  My salon is only rental for the moment until I get everything renovated but I will be starting a small training program hopefully come 2014.

That is of course a small snipit of information, but the real reason I wanted to right you and everyone at SFIEC is to say: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!! I would never have had the courage or strength to do this without all the amazing people who touched my life during my time at SFIEC!  The education and knowledge I received from all the oppurtunites you all provided truly molded me into the young woman and stylist I have become!  I have a lot of growth still but I am just so thankful for having attended SFIEC and it will be a community I am apart of for the rest of my life! 🙂

How to Pick a Beauty School

Kathleen Neves has done it again!  As a graduate of the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology, Kathleen prides herself on being an esthetics enthusiast.  She writes a blog on her life as an Esthetician and has some great advice…Here she talks how to decide on a beauty school.

SFIEC Grad Dishes

San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology graduate, Kathleen Neves writes blog, “My Life as an Esthetician“.  This week she dishes on her “Get Rich Quick Tip” where she discusses advice she received while in school.  Check out what she has to say about her journey from school to work.

Great article Kathleen!

Where Are They Now: Tanner Bassett

Before Tanner had even graduate from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology in February 2010, he knew he wanted to move to New York.  After obtaining his California license, he immediately flew to the Big Apple and set his sights on some of the top salons the city has to offer.  Within two weeks he had landed an enviable position at Sally Hershberger as her lead color assistant.

‘My favorite thing about my career is getting to help people feel good about themselves and getting to meet so many different people every day,’ Tanner beams.  ‘Whether it’s a client sitting in your chair or a model on a Marie Claire photo shoot, you always feel good making someone else feel good about themselves.’

The best advice Tanner offers to new Future Professionals is to say ‘yes’ to everything at school.  ‘The harder you work in beauty school, the better work ethic you will have once you get into a salon.’  As for his own aspirations, Tanner plans to break into the more editorial aspects of the business, as well as eventually formulating his own color line.

Where Are they Now: Sara Pinckney?

Sara Pinckney

Sara Pinckney

As a Future Professional, Sara was always very active in all the student-run programs and was even named Design Team Captain from having won a series of skill competitions.  Upon graduating from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology in September 2010, she began researching salons in Beverly Hills and Hollywood, but ultimately decided to stay in the north bay and accepted a position at Joe Hamer Salon in Petaluma, California.

Having completed the salon’s training program, Sara is now on the floor building her clientele.  ‘I absolutely love my career!’, Sara exclaims.  ‘I get to work with amazing people everyday (co-workers and clients) and be in an industry where there is always more to learn.’  She loves that the beauty industry is constantly changing and there will continuously be room for growth as a stylist.

Sara’s best advice to new Future Professionals is to always push themselves and make every day better than the last.  ‘It’s so important to be happy with what you’re doing and to really search for the right fit in a salon.  It makes life that much better when going to work doesn’t feel like a ‘job’!”

In the future, Sara hopes to grow as a stylist within the Joe Hamer company.  Joe is an educator and platform artist so she would love to follow this path and get into education and stage work herself.  Sara enthuses, ‘I want to be the best I can be and always learning the cutting edge trends in the industry.  I definitely feel that the sky is the limit!’
